Teacher donates kidney to save pupil's life

A teacher has saved the life of a seriously ill pupil by giving her one of his kidneys.

Ray Coe, special needs co-ordinator at Royal Docks Community School in Newham, stepped in to help 13-year-old Alya Ahmed Ali after she suffered from renal failure.

Mr Coe, 53, said he was "so pleased" he was able to give Alya the chance to live as a "normal healthy child."

He told BBC Radio 5 live's Victoria Derbyshire: "She just gave the biggest hug. The look on her face will just stay with me forever."
