'Significant risk' of prisoners becoming radicalised

The head of the prison and probation service has said there is a "significant risk" from Muslim prisoners becoming radicalised, as his service handles some very dangerous people.

Michael Spurr told BBC Panorama that his job was to minimise the risk of prisoners becoming radicalised and going on to commit a terrorist offence.

Over the past 10 years the number of Muslims in prisons has doubled to nearly 12,000, Ministry of Justice figures show.

The vast majority are moderate and radicalisation is rare, but there are around 100 Islamist extremists in jail.
