D-Day anniversary: Obama leads round of applause for veterans
Ceremonies are taking place in northern France, 70 years after Allied forces mounted the D-Day landings.
At a service held at the US cemetery at Colleville-sur-Mer, President Obama paid tribute to the American soldiers who fought.
He led a round of applause for all veterans, saying: "They fought in hopes of a day when we'd no longer need to fight."
A 21-gun salute was then sounded, followed by a fly-past by the US Air Force F-15s in the missing man formation.
