Al-Jazeera trial: BBC's James Harding condemns Egypt verdict

The BBC's Director of News and Current Affairs, James Harding, has condemned the sentencing of three al-Jazeera journalists to seven years each in prison.

Peter Greste, Mohamed Fahmy and Baher Mohamed were convicted of spreading false news on Monday.

Mr Harding said the corporation was always "wary" of commenting on a story but that it was "important to make clear... that journalists cannot be imprisoned for simply going out and doing their job."

"The whole judicial process here is beginning to look like an act of intimidation," he said.
