London Mayor Boris Johnson promises to face water cannon

The Metropolitan Police have confirmed the purchase of three second-hand water cannon, if the Home Office permits their use London mayor Boris Johnson promises to face the water jets.

The Metropolitan Police Commissioner Bernard Hogan Howe told the London Assembly the cannon had been bought and delivered to the UK to be re-fitted.

He said they would only be used in rare circumstances and with express approval of the Home Office. If permission were refused the machines would be re-sold.
