Should work holiday allowance be unlimited?

Virgin Group boss Sir Richard Branson has said he will remove limits on the amount of holidays that his 170 personal staff can take each year.

Jenny Biggam, co-founder of The7stars media agency, who have had such a policy in place for a number of years, explained on the Today programme that it "works incredibly well":

"If you work for a company that you are involved with and you share the goals of that company, people don't take advantage of the system."

However Lucy Kellaway, Financial Times columnist, commented that it "doesn't mean that it's going to be the end of counting who takes what off, it's going to be the beginning of counting."

"You're endlessly going to be looking over your shoulder to think 'is it OK to be off and how much have I had off relative to my colleagues?'," she added.

First broadcast on BBC Radio 4's Today programme on Thursday 25 September.
