Increase in car recalls 'likely to continue'

A car industry expert has said that an "era of more and more big recalls taking place" is "likely to continue".

Professor of industrial strategy David Bailey explained to Today programme presenter John Humphrys that "what we're seeing more generally is car companies having to share more and more components across models to get their costs down and if something goes wrong it effects a whole number of models".

His comments came after carmaker Vauxhall warned owners of 3,000 of its cars not to drive them due to a steering problem.

First broadcast on BBC Radio 4's Today programme on Saturday 27 September.
