Afghan conflict: UK military chiefs admit Taliban plan error

Britain underestimated the threat from the Taliban when it offered to take control of Helmand province 10 years ago, senior military figures have admitted.

The recently-retired head of the Army, General Sir Peter Wall, has told a major new BBC documentary they got it wrong when calculating how many troops would be needed.

Other senior commanders have also said there was no clear strategy and British forces were underprepared but that in the long term the mission, was worthwhile.
