Nigel Farage: PM's 'total failure' on migration figures

UKIP leader Nigel Farage has dismissed as a "total failure" David Cameron's plans to reduce net migration, after the latest figures revealed a year-on-year increase of 78,000.

Net migration - the number entering the UK minus those leaving - rose to 260,000 in the year to June. The prime minister had said he hoped to get it below 100,000 before the election in 2015.

Mr Farage told BBC News the government had pretended that immigration and the European Union were separate questions: "Now people realise that we have a total open door to nearly half-a-billion people and we have no control."
