World sports toughen up on drug cheats

Tougher penalties for athletes proven to be drug cheats will take effect on 1 January, with the introduction of the World Anti-Doping Agency's new code.

The new rules come into force while the investigation into systematic doping in Russian athletics remains ongoing.

It will see the automatic ban for a positive test increase from two years to four.
