Transport secretary: Rail fare rise is 'regrettable'

Rail fare rises in England and Wales have come into effect, with trade unions complaining that increases continue to outstrip wage growth.

Regulated fares, including season tickets, have risen by up to 2.5%. The rail industry says the average rise of 2.2% is the lowest for five years.

Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin told BBC Breakfast that any increase in rail fare is 'regrettable'.
