First-time buyers rose by 22% in 2014, says Halifax
The number of first-time property buyers has risen to its highest level in seven years, according to one of the UK's largest lenders.
The Halifax estimates that 326,000 people bought their first home in 2014, a rise of 22% compared to the year before.
That was the highest total since 2007, at the start of the financial crisis.
Simon Gompertz looks at the reasons behind the rise in first-time buyers.
