First female bishop: 'Laying on of hands' marks consecration

The Church of England has consecrated its first female bishop, the Reverend Libby Lane, in a ceremony at York Minster.

The moment that Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu, and other bishops laid their hands on Mrs Lane marked a key point in the ceremony.

The Church formally adopted legislation last November to allow women bishops, in a move which ended a centuries-old tradition of exclusively male bishops.
