'Jihadi John': Ex-MI6 chief defends security services

The former head of MI6, Sir John Sawers, has denied that the detention of Mohammed Emwazi - known as "Jihadi John'" - played a role in his radicalisation.

The masked Islamic State militant, has been pictured in the videos of the beheadings of Western hostages, was identified this week as a man in his mid-20s and from west London.

Speaking to the Today programme's Mishal Husain on Radio 4, Sir John Sawers defended the security services amid criticisms they failed to stop him.

You can hear the full interview with Sir John Sawers, former Chief of MI6, on the Today programme on Saturday from 07:00 GMT.
