Britain's forgotten Caribbean war heroes

They helped defeat Hitler and stayed on to rebuild Britain - but many Caribbean veterans feel left out of the World War II history books.

Up to 10,000 people travelled from former British colonies to fight on the frontline and help the civilian war effort, but faced racial prejudice upon arrival in Britain.

"In those days English people had never seen black people," said Neil Flanigan MBE.

Mr Flanigan and other surviving veterans have shared their unique stories with the BBC.

Fighting for King and Empire: Britain's Caribbean Heroes airs on BBC Four on 13 May.
