Truckers 'acting as immigration officers'

Lorry drivers have told BBC News that they fear they will be attacked and seriously injured if more is not done to stop the number of migrants trying to enter the UK illegally.

Latest Home Office figures show that migrants make around 100 attempts a day to try to get into the UK from Calais, mostly by trying to jump onto the back of lorries and sometimes armed with knives.

Truckers say their job is turning into the role of immigration officer.

If they fail to spot an asylum seeker hiding in their lorry, their company faces having to pay £2000 for each asylum seeker or migrant they bring across the Channel.

The BBC's Catrin Nye spoke to two truck drivers about their recent experiences.
