Boris Johnson: Third runway 'not going to happen'

The Airports Commission has backed a third Heathrow runway, saying it will add £147bn in economic growth and 70,000 jobs by 2050.

Sir Howard Davies's report said that the new runway should come with severe restrictions to reduce the environmental and noise effects.

Mayor of London Boris Johnson, who proposed an island airport in the Thames estuary as an alternative to expansion at Heathrow or Gatwick, told the BBC the proposal for a third runway at the west London airport was "not going to happen".
