Airports Commission chairman: 'London risks being circumvented'

The Airports Commission has backed a third Heathrow runway, saying it will add £147bn in economic growth and 70,000 jobs by 2050.

In an interview with BBC business editor Kamal Ahmed, commission chairman Sir Howard Davies said that if the UK did nothing to increase capacity at airports it would be "circumvented" by international travellers and the economy damaged.

He said a third runway at Heathrow Airport was the best option.
