'I thought I was safe as a runaway'

One of the UK's most senior police officers is warning that the time and cost of tracking down missing people is an unsustainable burden.

Sir Peter Fahy, Chief Constable of Greater Manchester Police, says his officers' response to other work is being compromised as they deal with thousands of calls which would be better dealt with by social workers.

It cost the force nearly £30m last year, and the percentage of people who have gone missing repeatedly over the last three years has nearly doubled.

Sarah is 16 years old and used to run away a lot.
