A-levels: Top grades fall but university places climb

Hundreds of thousands of students received their A-level results on Thursday as universities offer a record numbers of degree places.

For the first time, universities in England can recruit as many students as they like, after the government lifted a cap on numbers.

It has prompted speculation that even leading institutions will try to attract more pupils at the last minute.
