Screens 'detrimental to performance'

The longer children spend each day watching TV, using the internet or playing video games, the worse their GCSE results will be, researchers have said.

A team from Cambridge University tracked the progress of 845 students between the ages of 14 and 16 and found that every extra hour spent in front of a screen reduced their scores by the equivalent of two grades.

Dr Kirsten Corder said they found performance fell the more additional time was spent using screens.
