'Charities sold my father's data'

A government commissioned report into the fundraising activities of charities has called for a major overhaul of the system.

The review says the current regulator, the Fundraising Standards Board, should be scrapped and a new body created to set standards for good practice in fundraising.

The report also recommends that it should be made much simpler to opt out of fundraising communications. Charities breaching the rules could be forced to stop fundraising.

Christopher Rae claims his father Samuel was bombarded with scam mail after his data was sold on by several charities the family supported. His claims are currently being investigated by the Information Commissioner's Office.
