Surgeons have carried out pioneering human embryonic stem cell treatment in ongoing trials to find a cure for blindness.
The procedure has been designed to treat people with age-related macular degeneration, the leading cause of adult blindness in the UK.
The first results from the trials are expected towards the end of the year.
