'Controlling' domestic abuse - new law introduced

A new domestic abuse offence of 'coercive and controlling behaviour' has come into force in England and Wales.

It targets those who may use non-violent methods of abuse such as stopping someone from socialising, dictating what they wear or monitoring their social media accounts.

Offenders could be jailed for up to 5 years and fined.

Jane-Frances Kelly reports.
