England's 1966 World Cup goal - as you've never heard it before

Kenneth Wolstenholme's television commentary of Geoff Hurst's winning goal against West Germany in the 1966 World Cup entered footballing folklore.

But the radio commentary has not been heard for half a century - because the BBC did not keep copies of it.

However one sports fan, Frank McFarlane, did record the match commentary from the radio, 50 years ago.

He told his friend James Robinson he had the recording at a school reunion.

Mr Robinson was convinced it was important enough to contact BBC Radio 5 live - and it was aired for the first time on Friday morning.

This audio clip is originally from Radio 5 live Breakfast on Friday 29 July 2016
