Luton Airport: Passengers describe their ordeal after fire broke out in car park
Stranded passengers have described their ordeal after a fire broke out in a multi-storey car park at Luton airport.
A witness reported hearing loud explosions and seeing flames shooting across the car park. He added the fire took hold at incredible speed.
According to Bedfordshire's fire service, up to 1,200 vehicles may have been in Terminal Car Park 2, which suffered a "significant structural collapse".
No-one was thought to be seriously injured but four firefighters and one other person were taken to hospital for smoke inhalation. Hundreds of people have been stranded at the airport.
The fire service said they had no information to suggest it was anything other than an accidental fire.
