Wildlife margins make way for wheat farming

Over the years some farmers have received grants to take small areas of land out of production to help wildlife in England, as many key species are in crisis.

Numbers of plants, insects and bird species have declined in the last 50 years as a result of intensive farming and the use of pesticides.

Naturalist Chris Packham visited Somerset farmer Gerald Addicott who has been ploughing up his field margins because he can make twice as much money from growing wheat than he can obtain in wildlife grants.
