Day the sea froze at Herne Bay

Cold weather that reached the UK on 22 December 1962 kept the country in arctic conditions until the following March, with snow on the ground for 62 consecutive days.

In Kent, the sea iced over at Herne Bay and shipping on the River Medway was paralysed by an ice sheet while in West Sussex, Gatwick airport was snowed in.
