Wildlife hit by extreme weather in 2012

Miranda Krestovnikoff looks at how wildlife in England has been affected by heavy rain and weather conditions during 2012.

In southern England swifts in Oxford had their worst ever breeding season, with many birds abandoning their chicks within a few days of hatching.

Blue tits, insects and butterflies have also been badly affected by the unusual weather conditions.

Wild Weather in 2012: South and South East will be broadcast on BBC One at 17:30 GMT on Sunday and nationwide on the iPlayer for seven days thereafter.
