Hastings and East Kent battle for City of Culture title
Areas in East Sussex and Kent are among the 11 in the country hoping to be named the UK City of Culture 2017.
Hastings and a joint entry from five districts in East Kent are among the contenders for the title.
The deadline for bids passed on Tuesday and a shortlist is due to be announced in June.
BBC South East's Fiona Irving spoke to designer Wayne Hemmingway, who is backing East Kent's bid, Niall Whitehead, head of performing arts at Helenswood School, actor Pablo Pakula, of the Accidental Collective, and Simon Hubbard, Hastings's director of regeneration.
