Maid of Kent beetle makes rare appearance in 'home' county

A beetle not seen in Kent for almost half a century until 1997 has turned up in the county for only the third time in 16 years.

The Maid of Kent was once thought to be on the verge of extinction, and was declared an endangered species.

But it has now been spotted on the RSPB's reserve at Cliffe, near Rochester in a cow-pat.
