Mementoes of Spitfire pilot shot down over Kent auctioned

A World War Two Spitfire pilot shot down over Kent during the Battle of Britain in 1940 left behind poignant personal belongings, which are being auctioned 74 years on.

Les Ricalton, aged 26, was flying over Maidstone on 17 October 1940 when his plane exploded as he was trying to intercept 60 German aircraft.

His watch, which stopped at the exact time his plane crashed, is among the memorabilia.

BBC South East's Sara Smith spoke to auctioneer Malcolm Claridge and Spitfire enthusiast Stephen Burt.
