£40bn tidal energy plan on show

Plans for a series of tidal barrages which it's claimed could provide enough electricity for 5m homes across the North West, are to go on show at a series of public events.

The £40bn plans involve building the barrages across Morecambe Bay, the Ribble, the Mersey and the Dee with new coastal roads joining them.

A group of business leaders believe the scheme would boost the region's economy and plan to ask for government financial backing.

Environment correspondent Judy Hobson has been talking to the chair of North West Energy Squared, Alan Torevell, and Dr George Aggidis, of the University of Lancaster.
