Footage showing illegal immigrants smuggled out of UK

British-based people smugglers are trafficking illegal migrants out of Dover in the back of lorries so they can evade deportation and come back at a later date, a BBC investigation has found.

An undercover journalist filmed 21 people being smuggled out of the port to Dunkirk in France. Most intended to return.

A loophole means that if they register as an asylum seeker in Italy, get smuggled back into the UK and are subsequently caught, they are then likely to be deported to Italy rather than their country of origin.

BBC South East Home Affairs Correspondent Colin Campbell reports.
