Brave children are "inspirational" says Prince Harry
A Darlington teenager who had part of his leg amputated and a Cumbrian girl who survived a heart transplant have been described by Prince Harry as "inspirational beyond belief" at the prestigious WellChild Awards 2015.
Kieran Maxwell, 17, from Heighington village near Darlington, was honoured for showing indomitable spirit in battling a rare form of bone cancer which forced doctors to amputate his leg.
And nine-year-old Nellie-Mai Evans from Warcop in Cumbria, was recognised for surviving a heart transplant when she was a baby, battling cancer three times and suffers severe fits and behavioural problems after having a stroke in 2009.
Prince Harry told them he wanted to recognise their "strength of human spirit" at the awards ceremony in London.
