M6 driverless lorries trials planned for Cumbria

The government is set to announce trials of driverless lorries in England.

The tests could take place on the M6 in Cumbria.

The system is likely to involve a convoy of driverless lorries travelling on the motorway. Truck manufacturers have already held trials outside the UK.

But the AA has cast doubt on the project saying the UK has many more junctions on motorways compared with other countries.

The government says there is potential for "improved journeys" and fuel savings.

The Chancellor George Osborne is expected to give more details in the Budget speech this month.
