Southern rail strike: Five-day walkout begins

A rail strike, scheduled to be the longest since 1968, has begun with hundreds of trains cancelled on the Southern network across south-east England.

The RMT union said support for its five-day walkout in opposition to a new role for conductors was "rock solid".

Southern operator Govia Thameslink said the action was "completely unacceptable, unjustified and unnecessary".

BBC South East Today spoke to passengers outside Brighton station.
