Lucy Herd petitions for longer bereavement leave

A mother whose 23-month-old son drowned in a garden pond wants the government to review the amount of time bereaved parents can take off work.

Lucy Herd, from Sandhurst in Berkshire, said Jack's father had to return to work just five days after his son's death.

She has started a petition to have the issue debated at Westminster.

"Five days after the death of a child… we hadn't even buried him," she said.
