Laptop problems for 999 caller

West Midlands Police have revealed a 999 call from a woman asking for help to unlock her laptop computer.

The force released the call as part of a 24-hour Tweetathon, external to highlight the work done by its call handling staff.

The force said it typically answers about 1,500 emergency calls a day.

Ch Insp Sally Holmes said hoax and nuisance calls not only increased the workload for staff, but could also delay answering genuine and sometimes life-threatening calls.
