Tareena Shakil: 'It wasn't my intention to enter Syria'

Tareena Shakil, the first British woman to be convicted of membership of so-called Islamic State, told police she never meant to travel to Syria.

The 26-year-old from Birmingham, was also found guilty of encouraging acts of terrorism on Twitter, by a jury at the city's Crown Court.

West Midlands Police has released an interview with Shakil in which she told them she ended up in Syria after meeting a man on a beach while on holiday.

Jurors rejected her claim that she had only wished to live under Sharia law.
