Period crime drama Peaky Blinders is returning to our screens.

But who were the real gang?

The first series was set after World War One, but author of The Real Peaky Blinders, Birmingham historian Carl Chinn, says the story of the actual gang begins in the late 19th Century.

The new series of the drama starts on BBC Two at 21:00 GMT on Wednesday.
