North Somerset housing crisis as row stops building
A row between North Somerset Council and the government over the number of new homes needed by the district has led to a shortage of accommodation.
The council wants 14,000 new homes built by 2026 but a government-appointed inspector has suggested a figure closer to double that would be more appropriate.
In Weston-super-Mare, staff at a homeless drop-in centre said they have seen record numbers of people asking for help. They claim the town has a shortage of one-bed flats.
