Rail electrification work heads West

Hundreds of Network Rail staff working on the £2.8bn scheme to electrify the Great Western Main Line will arrive in the West this Easter.

It means the line between Bristol and Bath will be closed for a week, as work begins on the biggest upgrade to the line since the first tracks were laid in 1838.

A low bridge in Keynsham is among obstacles - it leaves no room overhead for electrical cables, so it is cheaper to lower the tracks.

BBC Points West's Scott Ellis spoke to James Pritchard from Network Rail.
