Cabbies call for Uber to be withdrawn in Bristol and Bath

The taxi-call app Uber has defended the safety of its service in Bristol and Bath following calls for the cities to follow London's lead by withdrawing their licence.

Now the Hackney Carriage Taxi Drivers of Bristol want tougher safety checks on Uber drivers, or a ban.

Uber says its drivers go through the same enhanced checks as other cab drivers.
