Elite: Dangerous - computer game fans back re-make
A computer game brought out 30 years ago is to be re-launched by a Cambridge firm after fans pledged £1.5m.
Elite: Dangerous is based on an original version of the same title.
More than 20,000 people have paid for the latest game through online donations to both the developer and project funding website Kickstarter.
"It has created an amazing opportunity for us - to make the game we wanted to make," said David Braben, founder of Cambridge's Frontier Developments and co-author of the original game.
Jason Fitzpatrick, from the Cambridge Centre for Computing History, said: "The idea of being able to play a game and get involved in that story for hours and hours is something that was new then and is just the standard thing now."
