Nissan reveal £6m taxi plant for Coventry

Nissan has announced a £6m joint investment with ADV Manufacturing to build its new range of taxis in Coventry.

The vehicles, designed specifically for London, are set to be produced from December, initially with a 1.6 litre petrol engine.

An all electric model is expected to be launched in 2015.

The plans follow an announcement by London Mayor Boris Johnson last week that all taxis operating in the capital will have to be capable of producing zero emissions by 2018.

Nissan's taxis will be produced in Barcelona, before shipping over to ADV's plant in Coventry for final assembly.

ADV, which employs some 150 staff, said it had already started to recruit new engineers and other workers.
