Community orchestra performs beneath Cumbrian mountain

A community orchestra is performing its music in an unusual place - deep below a Cumbrian mountain

In an underground cavern at Honister Slate Mine, at the foot of Fleetwith Pike, the Cobwebs Orchestra, with the backdrop of an artistic lighting installation, is staging a series of unique concerts in celebration of Cumbria's rich mining heritage.

The 44-piece orchestra is playing in the appropriately named "Fiddlers Cave" more than 100 metres underground.

Artistic Director Steve Messan says the dark, damp, conditions are all part of the unique experience for the audience
