Appleby residents relieved as vital river crossing re-opens

The people of Appleby have breathed a collective sigh of relief as their vital river crossing in the centre of town was re-opened to traffic and pedestrians.

The bridge was closed amidst safety fears at the height of the floods, effectively splitting the town in two, and forcing residents to take a 40 minute detour just to get from one side of the river to the other.

But, to the relief of everyone in Appleby, engineers have now declared the bridge safe to use again.
