Derbyshire Erewash Canal repair work costs £50,000

The Erewash Canal in Derbyshire has been drained to repair a lock gate and brickwork costing the Canal and River Trust £50,000.

The work, which could take up to four weeks, includes restoring and repairing Sandiacre Lock - dating back to the Industrial Revolution.

Trust manager Sean McGinley said they have to keep the 250-year-old canal working.

It is part of a nationwide £45m programme of canal repairs.
