Bearded vulture: Birdwatcher, 15, 'nearly fainted'

A 15-year-old birdwatcher who photographed a rare vulture spotted in the UK said the experience was "truly unforgettable".

Indy Kiemel Greene has had messages flooding in and made several appearances in the national media after posting photos of the raptor in the Derbyshire Peak District.

The avid birdwatcher, from Thoresby Park in Nottinghamshire, said he stayed up all night and trekked across the moors before sunrise to spot the bearded vulture.

He said about 100 other birdwatchers also flocked to the moors to catch a glimpse and a photograph of the rare bird, which is larger than a golden eagle.

The Derbyshire Wildlife Trust said it was only the second time a bearded vulture had been seen in the UK. It's thought to have travelled here from the Alps where the endangered animal is the subject of a reintroduction programme.
